Professor Matrix Fung is Chief of the Division of Endocrine Surgery, and Clinical Assistant Professor of the Department of Surgery at School of Clinical Medicine, LKS Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong (HKU Med).
Professor Fung specializes in the management of thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal disorders, with particular expertise in minimally invasive techniques such as radiofrequency ablation and microwave ablation for benign and malignant thyroid nodules, as well as Graves’ disease. His clinical practice spans the full spectrum of endocrine surgery, ranging from benign thyroid conditions to complex malignancies and neuroendocrine tumours of the pancreas and adrenal glands.
Professor Fung is an active researcher who has secured competitive research grants in several key areas, including the integration of artificial intelligence into thyroid cancer management, minimally invasive treatments for thyroid disease, and the application of near-infrared autofluorescence for parathyroid identification and preservation. His work has gained international recognition, leading to invited lectures and workshops at international conferences, where he shares his expertise in innovative endocrine surgical techniques.
Professor Fung is actively engaged in the academic community as a member of the Hong Kong, Asian, and International Associations of Endocrine Surgeons, and as a Council Member of the Asian Surgical Association.
