Dr. Chan is a Honorary Clinical Associate Professor in Department of Surgery, School of Clinical Medicine, HKUMed. He graduated from The University of Hong Kong in 1998 and joined the Division of Head & Neck surgery and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Department of Surgery, The University of Hong Kong. Subsequently, Dr. Chan received post fellowship training at the MD Anderson Cancer Centre and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre. He obtained the Degree of Master of Surgery (MS) in 2008 and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in 2015.
Dr. Chan’s clinical and research work is on nasopharyngeal carcinoma, ranging from endoscopic, robotic and open salvage for recurrent tumours, to translational research on biomarkers for prognostication and personalization of treatment. Dr. Chan is also interested in the management of carcinoma of the larynx and hypopharynx and the reconstruction for laryngo-pharyngectomy defects using the free jejunal flap. He is an active researcher in clinical trials and translational laboratory work, and has delivered over 160 invited lectures, authored / co-authored 24 book chapters, and published over 160 peer-reviewed journal articles (H-index 25). He is the Past President of the Hong Kong Head & Neck Society in 2012, 2014 and 2024.
